Future K-9's On Call Support Dogs

What is a Support Dog?

The K-9’s On Call Support Dogs are a specialized group of dogs that
focus on and are trained to work with and support staff that deal day to day with emergencies and disasters.

The K-9’s On Call Support Dog teams are registered with the national pet therapy group Pet Partners.

Please visit their website www.petpartners.org for details.

Prior experience is welcomed but not necessary.

On Call members from our training group are available to:

  • Meet with you to see if your dog is ready for your evaluation as a therapy dog

  • Mentor you through your Pet Partners evaluation and registration

  • Introduce you to the facility you will be visiting

  • Provide as much training as you and your dog need to be a good support team

New members are provided with additional training about disasters and how best to communicate with people in crisis to get them the help they need.

All members attend mandatory annual training meetings or complete online study to prepare handlers with new information about crisis relief.

If you are interested in joining our group, the first step is to contact the Coordinator, Karen Kimbrough at bluedogmama@yahoo.com or 512-422-6146.
